Before I start this post: learn about an amazing compilation album (For Nihon) that Helios is putting together to help Japan’s quake relief efforts.

OK. So I’m a bit late to this particular party*, but I’ve been spending a lot more time with Twitter lately and, well, I actually find the damn thing useful. Odd thing to say on many levels, not the least of which is the fact that my day job involves helping people to “use technology to improve the effectiveness of their workforce”. I’ve talked a good game about using social media tools to do that, but Twitter itself? Honestly, I thought it rather gimmicky and of limited value.
What I have found is that there is a lot of good information out there in the “tweet-verse” IF you follow the right people. It also is a way to reduce the “degrees of separation” to ’1′; you can get info from and directly interact in some cases with people who you would not otherwise NEVER interact with. (Of course to maintain that access, you need – in my opinion – to avoid being a pain in the arse. I find that I quickly unfollow folks who tweet every little brain fart they have, so I avoid doing that like the plague.)
Anyway, it’s been fun to follow Zoe Keating (zoecello) and Olafur Arnalds (olafurarnalds) on their tours, check out websites that also interest Loscil (_loscil_) or Deru (deru), learn about an amazing compilation album (For Nihon) that Helios (_Helios_) is putting together to help Japan’s quake relief efforts, learn more about Ambienteer’s music (ambienteer), find out about cool Reaktor ensembles from reaktorplayer, check out what manofrooms is listening to, etc. (You can see everyone I am following here.)
Anyway, if you (like me) had some question as to whether or not the “tweet-verse” (I think terms like that helped to turn me off) had anything to offer, give it a shot. You might be pleasantly surprised.
Damn. Guess that means I better go check out Facebook too…..
